GRANBURY — Sara DeLaschmidt Hendren, passed away Sunday, Apr. 22, 2012, in Granbury.
Celebration of life: 2:30 p.m. Friday, Apr. 27, 2012, at Granbury Church of Christ with a reception immediately following the service at the church.
Memorials: Memorials can be made to Granbury Church of Christ in honor of Dino and Mata Tzanetos, missionaries in Greece, the American Cancer Society, or a charity that you choose in honor of her.
Sara Hendren was born Oct. 12, in Henning, Tenn., to Cecil and Lexie DeLaschmidt. She graduated from high school at the Harding Academy in Searcy, Ark. She was the first woman to be elected to public office in Lauderdale County, Tennessee, serving as the Circuit Court Clerk. Sara married Glenn Hendren on Dec. 18, 1954 in Henning, Tenn. While Glenn was in the military, they lived in Tennessee, Honolulu, Hawaii, and Killeen, Texas. They retired to Granbury, and lived in Pecan Plantation for 17 years. Then Sara lived at the Waterview in Granbury. Sara worked as a library aide and teacher’s aide in the Killeen Independent School District. She owned and operated Busy Bee Daycare in Killeen.
Sara was a member of the Granbury Church of Christ. She loved playing bridge, being with her friends, traveling, shopping, and spending time with her family. She was preceded in death by her parents and her husband, Glenn Hendren.
Survivors: Son, Ray Hendren and wife, Janet, and their children, Alec, Emma and Kayla Hendren, all of Austin; daughters, Kay Fields and husband, Steve, and their daughter, Lily Fields, all of Fort Worth, Jan Hegi and husband, Alan, and their daughters, Lexie, Emily and Kate Hegi, all of Fort Worth.
