Phyllis (Phil) Gutowski passed away peacefully on June 24, 2019 in Glen Rose, TX. She had moved there recently with her husband, Edward, to be near their daughter.

Born in Amsterdam, NY on October 17, 1924, Phyllis was the youngest of four daughters, Helen Ralbovsky, Beatrice Mason, Barbara Fouhy and a son, Alfred Boguzes, of John and Josephine Girdvainis Boguzes, all predeceased.

A life-long resident of Amsterdam, Phyllis graduated from Wilbur H. Lynch High School in 1942. She continued her studies and became an RN, graduating from Saint Mary’s Hospital School of Nursing in 1945.

Phyllis worked at Saint Mary’s Hospital for 44 years, retiring in August 1989. She took great pride in her profession, a healing force amongst us, giving comfort and relief to generations of patients and her family. She served as President of the Saint Mary’s Auxiliary, volunteered inestimable hours organizing and selling items in the hospital gift shop, sewed quilts with her friends to raise money for charity causes, made contributions to bake sales … just some of the offerings she brought to the community she loved to serve.

Phyllis wedded “Mister Ed” on September 27, 1947… nearly 72 years of marital pop and fusion. Along the way, they raised a handful of cool children and created many wonderful memories. Phyllis especially loved the annual family holiday celebrations and get together with relatives.

Phyllis and Ed were crazy about the game of golf. They were very active members of Amsterdam Municipal Golf Course playing in the single’s and senior double’s league. They especially loved traveling around the country together, playing the game and hanging out with their friends.

Phyllis is survived by Edward, presently of Granbury, TX, five children and their spouses, Carole (Douglas) Pump (Mark) of Granbury, TX, John (Tiki) of Northampton, MA, Robert (Joeann) of Fort Collins, CO, Daniel (Jude) of Vacaville, CA, Gary (Jeanine) of San Diego, CA and six grandchildren, Elyse, Lauren, Cristina, Isabel, Justine and Kevin, and many nieces and nephews.

A memorial service for Phyllis is planned and the details are being sorted out. If you would like to be informed about this gathering, please leave your contact information on the memorial website provided by Wiley Funeral Home of Granbury, TX.

Memorial contributions may be made in Phyllis’s honor to the Alzheimer Association.
