She was born on July 6, 1920, the youngest and the last surviving of ten children born to James William Brown and Ella Fronia Butchee Brown in Chalk Mountain.
Neva married Eugene “Gene” LaBaron Harwell on June 1, 1940. He preceded her in death on July 29, 1974. They were happily married for 34 years. They moved to Fort Worth in 1951, where they raised her children, Milton Abner Harwell and Loretta Jo Harwell. They moved back to Glen Rose in 1968. She worked at Glen Rose High School from 1974 until her retirement in 1989.

Neva loved watching sports and played basketball at Stephenville High School. She loved gardening, sewing, and fishing. She played softball in the Senior League in Glen Rose and was very involved at the Senior Citizen Center. She was an active member of Eastern Star and Rainbow Baptist Church.
She moved to Glen Rose Medical Center and Nursing Home in February 2007. On a Glen Rose Nursing Home fishing trip, she became well known for catching a 6 foot water moccasin. She was there for 11 years when her anniversary rolled around in February 2018. She was preceded in death by her husband, her parents, nine siblings, and one grandchild.

Neva is survived by her children: Milton Abner Harwell and wife Pat, and Loretta Horn and husband Ron, grandchildren: Tony Harwell and wife Denise, Gina Shackelford and husband Mark, Holly Capers and husband Brian, Michael Horn and wife Jennifer, Jeremy Horn and wife Maria and Jennifer Chan and husband Sain, great-grandchildren: Mark Harwell, Jake Shackelford, Randy Shackelford, Curtis Shackelford and wife Callie, Kelsey Farmer and husband Garrett, Dylan Chan, Kourtney Horn, Lauryn Chan, Peyton Chan, and Logan Horn, great-great-grandchildren Jadelyn, Elisha, Jackson, Aryanna and Ellis.

The family would like to thank the Glen Rose Nursing and Rehab Center for the care they gave Neva for the past 11 ½ years. The staff provided more than care; they also gave her plenty of love and many great activities that kept her going strong.
