Lennie Fredonia Severs Cochran, 100, of Granbury, Texas passed away on Wednesday, May 15, 2019. Graveside service: 2:00 p.m. Friday, May 17, 2019 at Evergreen Cemetery, Lipan. Visitation: 6:00-8:00 pm Thursday, Wiley Chapel, Lipan.
Lennie was born in Beaver, Oklahoma on October 29, 1918 to William Prior Severs and Nora Isabelle Purdy. She was one of 11 children. In 1937 this green-eyed lady eloped with the love of her life, oilfield worker, J.D. Cochran. Lennie and J. D. lived in various communities in Texas and had three daughters, Ann, Beth and D. Lennie worked for Southwestern Bell Telephone Company for 35 years. Upon her retirement, she and J.D. moved to Lipan to the J-L Farm.
Lennie became known as an excellent Southern cook who loved preparing meals for holiday gatherings and her many social clubs. Candy and sweets were commonplace in the Cochran home, and she loved spoiling her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. As a child, her eldest great grandchild remarked, “I love it at Gran’s house. All she ever makes us eat is cinnamon toast and candy.”
Always social, vivacious, and witty, Lennie had many friends and enjoyed a host of social activities. She was active in Eastern Star, First Baptist Church of Lipan, Chieftain & Squaw social club, Hood County Extension Club, Senior Citizens of Hood County and various other activities.
Lennie moved to Trinity Nursing & Rehabilitation of Granbury in June of 2014. When asked recently if she felt like she was 100, with a twinkle in her eye she chirped, “No real difference.” Lennie was preceded in death by her husband J. D. Cochran and ten siblings.
Survivors: Daughters Ann Ford and husband Doug, Beth Pogue and D. Hardin; seven grandchildren, ten great-grandchildren and seven great-great-grandchildren and another on the way.
