Joe Walton Bailey, Jr., of Granbury, passed away on Wednesday, August 1, 2018 and left this world with no regrets. Family celebration service will be in September in Aledo.

Joe was born on January 16, 1936 to Joe and Hazel Bailey in Raven, Virginia. He married his high school sweetheart, Marilyn Laine on September 3, 1955 in St. Clairsville, Ohio. After a year at Ohio University, Joe joined the USMC where he would proudly serve 4 years. Joe and Marilyn would return to Ohio where they would raise their two children, which Joe called his greatest treasures.

His job with J&L Steel would move the family to many places throughout his career. At each and every one of these moves, Joe and Marilyn would meet and maintain lifelong friendships.

He loved traveling and the family reunions were a treasured highlight. Joe would tell stories and entertain the family with tales of his boyhood, his proud time as a Marine, many riotous escapades with Marilyn; along with adventures and mishaps from a life well-lived and loved. Golf was on the top of Joe’s list and he loved to win—especially when he would beat his daughter Lisa and her husband Mark. He had earned bragging rights until the next round and Joe made sure everyone knew it!

Joe’s beautiful wife of 62 years, Marilyn, is left to cherish his life. His family surviving him are his children, son Mark Bailey, and wife Lisa of St. Louis; and daughter, Lisa Sadel and husband Mark of Aledo, TX. Joe’s granddaughters, Erin Bailey and Mikka Bailey, both of St. Louis and grandson, Zachary Sadel, of Weatherford are left to share tears, memories, and laughter of their G-Pa. Joe was also an amazing “Great one” to his precious great grandchildren. Joe’s siblings who survive him and are left to share memories of their brother are Cornelius F. Bailey and wife Wendy, and his two very special sisters, Patricia Bevis and Kristi McNell and husband Mike. Marilyn’s siblings who also mourn Joe’s passing are brothers-in-law Glenn Laine and wife Gari Aber and Bob Laine and wife Rhonda. Joe’s family, including many nieces, nephews, cousins, and world-wide friends are left to mourn his passing and celebrate a life full of love. We also want to recognize Alpha Omega Hospice who provided invaluable expertise and loving support to Joe.
