Jennifer Turner Tomlinson, 72, passed away on Wednesday, January 9, 2019. Service: 3:00 PM, Saturday, January 12, 2019, Wiley Funeral Home Chapel, Granbury, Interment: Caddo Cemetery, Joshua, Texas.
Jennifer was born on September 12, 1946 in Inglewood, California to Winifred and Billy Turner, Sr. She grew up in Pampa, Texas and graduated from Pampa High School in 1964. She was baptized on September 8, 1964. She married Daniel Tomlinson on August 27, 1966. She received her Bachelor’s degree in Education from North Texas University in 1968.
She was a beloved journalism teacher. Her teaching skills were exceptional and she influenced many of her students to pursue careers in journalism and communications. She was patient, selfless, humble and smart. Mrs. T as known by her students and staff received many awards as a High School Journalism advisor. The most prestigious award, she received was the Max R. Haddick, Teacher of the Year Award in 1987, for outstanding Texas High School Journalism Teacher. She received this award when she was a teacher at Monterey High School in Lubbock. She was the President of the Texas Association of Journalism Educators from 1989 to 1991. In 2002, she received the Texas Legend of Scholastic Journalism award in recognition of life-long dedication to scholastic journalism, its goal and its students. She received the 2004 Advisor of the Year award from Taylor Publishing. She taught at Bowie High School in Arlington and retired from there.
She loved Dan, animals, books and flowers. She was a collector, genealogist, and author. Her greatest accomplishment was teaching her daughters to love and give. She was preceded in death by her husband Dan Tomlinson, on February 28, 2017, parents: Bill and Winnie Turner, sister-in-law: Cindy Turner, and niece: Colby Turner.
Jennifer is survived by her daughters: Whitney Felty and husband Todd, of Granbury and Jessica Janko and husband Mark of Highland Village, grandchildren: Asher Felty (17) , Anna Felty (14), both of Granbury, Reese Janko (11), Carson Janko (8), Hayden Janko (2) , all of Highland Village, brothers: Billy Turner, Jr. and wife Barbara of Pampa, Texas, Dexter Turner, of Sugarland, Texas, and Neil Turner and wife Usha of Edmond, Oklahoma, sisters: Loretta Turner of Pampa, Texas, Nelda Copeland and husband Randy of Pampa, Texas, Christina McCown and husband Robert of White Deer, Texas, eight nieces, three nephews, eight great-nieces, and five great-nephews.
