Wilma Jean Sherrard Dover was born in Hico, TX on June 22, 1936, to Wilena Ogle Sherrard and Hershel Sherrard, the oldest of three children. She grew up in Clairette, TX and moved to Hico, TX in 1948 where she graduated from Hico High School in 1954. She graduated from Tarleton State College in 1956 where she met Aaron Lee Dover. They were married at First United Methodist Church, Hico, on July 7, 1957. They then moved to Lubbock, TX where Aaron attended Texas Tech University and graduated in 1961. They were married over 56 years until his death on November 18, 2013. During this time she and the family lived in Fort Worth twice, San Antonio, Stephenville, and Aledo until moving to De Cordova Bend in 1995. After her husband Aaron’s death in 2013, she continued to live in De Cordova Bend until being diagnosed with Parkinson’s and Lewy Bodies dementia in 2017, whereupon she moved to Tyler to be closer to family.

Jean was a member of Acton United Methodist Church. She enjoyed the 50-50 Sunday School class, UMW Literary Circle, and her weekly Bible study. She loved her family and often reflected on her fond memories of children and grandchildren, one of the highlights of her life.

She is survived by two sons, Aaron Lee Dover, Jr., and his wife, Carol of Richardson, TX, and Alan Dover, and his wife Jeaneth of Flint, TX; two grand-daughters: Courtney Ball, and her husband Clinton of Richardson, TX, and Sarah Jean Dover of Flint, TX; four grandsons: Austin Dover and wife Bailee of Alexandria, VA, David Dover and wife Baylee of San Antonio, TX, Blake Dover and his wife Brooke of Marshall, TX and Bryce Dover and his wife Haley of Bullard, TX; her sister-in-law Doris Brown of Granbury, TX; her sister-in-law Glenna Geer of Abilene, TX; 5 great granddaughters and 3 nieces.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Hershel and Wilena Sherrard, her husband Aaron Dover, Sr., her sister Sylvia Sherrard Pettit, her brother Roland Sherrard, her brothers-in-laws, Milton Brown and Floyd Geer, and one great granddaughter, Melanie Kate Dover.

The family would like to thank the wonderful staff and caregivers at Oak Hills Terrace Memory Care for their loving care.

The family suggests that donations can be made in her memory to Buckner International at buckner.org in lieu of flowers.
