Ermine Dunivan Laurence was born in Fort Worth on July 23, 1923 and passed this life on August 2, 2017. Services will be at Wiley Funeral Home, 400 Hwy. 377 East in Granbury on Tuesday, August 8, 2017 at 10:00 a.m.
At 94-years-old, Ermine still volunteered four days a week as Executive Director of People Helping People – a non-profit food and clothing agency for the needy of Hood County that she helped establish in 1983. Her weekends were spent with her family in North Richland Hills where you could often find her crocheting, watching Texas Rangers baseball or old westerns, visiting the library, going out to eat, and attending church. Ermine retired from Montgomery Ward’s in the Traffic Department after working there for 38 years. She was a member of the Eastern Star Granbury Lodge #530.
Ermine was recognized often for the roles she played in leadership, helping the needy and working with children. Some of her awards include: Opal Durant Granbury Woman of the Year in 2008, Tarrant County Friend of 4-H Award in 2014, Voyage 4-H Friend of 4-H in 2013, Woman in Transportation in Fort Worth in 1967, Woman of the Year in Transportation in 1978.
One of her greatest accolades was being recognized as Extreme Grandma by her granddaughters’ friends and by 4-H club members. She was Extreme because of always having to be busy, always looking for ways to help others, and because she had love for the youth just like they were her family.
Ermine accepted Jesus as her Savior as a child. She was a member of Thorp Spring Baptist Church, but in later years regularly attended North Richland Hills Baptist Church with her family.
She is survived by her son, Jack Roach (Renee); stepson, Roger Haskins (Sherry); granddaughters, Autumn Wood (Dillon James) and Amanda Roach; great-grandson Brody James; nieces, Dianne Dunivan and Ermine Dana Dunivan (Diane Perreault); nephew, Sonny Dunivan (Paula); grandnephews, Troy Dunivan and James Dunivan; grandniece, Sara Dunivan (Austen Conner-Morris). She was preceded in death by her parents, Joe and Eale Dunivan.
In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to People Helping People Food Fund, 306 Kings Plaza, Granbury, TX 76049.
